The Rotary Club of Makindye was born on 23/5/1989. 
The Speaker of the Republic of Uganda, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga being a member of the Club will be the Guest of Honour.

The name “Makindye” was inherited from the village and division where the Club was originally formed.

Current:                                            Global Grant worth USD 79,500 maternal and child at Kitwe Health Center IV. (Equiping the Health Center with medical equipments and medically Equipped van. Money already on the Account. (Procurement process going on)
 
At Draft level:                                    Global Grant worth USD 69,000 Water and Sanitation( Four bore halls to four villages in  Yumbe District). International  Partner available, ready to be submitted next week
 
At Draft level:                                    Global Grant worth USD 81,000 in Economic and Empowerment( supporting women and youth groups in Rwananuura, Ntungamo district. ( Supporting these groups with live stock, Sewing machines for the youth as well capitalization.) International Partner yet to confirm

Below are some of the projects done by the Club over the years:
 
  1. Construction of phase 1 of Kipampa drainage channel in Maswangali Makindye with assistance from British High Commission and Rotary Club of Slough in United Kingdom ((World Service Community project – (WSCP) -(Matching Grant (MG)) .
 
  1. 2nd phase of the Kifampa drainage channel as a with the help of the Rotary Club of Roma in District 2080 in Italy (WSCP) (MG) 2004-05.
 
  1. Established Twin Club relationships with the Rotary Club of Wigan in the United States of America for the Construction of a kitchen and toilet at Makindye- Luwafu Orphanage (Matching Grant (MG)) 2004-05.
 
  1. Established Twin Club relationships with the Rotary Club of Cheltenham Cleeve Vale in District 1100 in United Kingdom for the Centennial Community Project, “RI Maternity Unit” at Hope Clinic Lukuli – Italy (WSCP) (MG) 2004-05
 
  1. Furnished a family house for an HIV widow at Namanve built by TASO.
 
  1. 15 VIP Latrines constructed in Makindye.
 
  1. 5 stage stand shades constructed in Makindye.
 
  1. 10 protected wells constructed in Makindye.
 
  1. Paid school fees for:
 
  1. 1 Disabled person (Makula Project) from Primary level to University and now a graduate of Pharmacy.
  2. Mustafa who is in S2 after having been operated on and expenses paid by the Club
 
  1. Mission Green( Planted trees in Katwe, Kiringente, Lwengo among many others)
 
  1. Poultry Farm at Nsambya babies’ home.
 
  1. Donated mosquito nets to Makindye- Luwafu Orphanage.
  2. Luwafu Orphanage Project
    • Piped water to the orphanage school.
    • A pit latrine was constructed.
    • Volleyball pitch was put in place.
    • Textbooks for the school were purchased for their library.
    • A tank was also installed.
    • Some unfinished buildings were also finished (plastered).
 
  1. St. Catherine’s College, Nakinyuguzi - Textbooks for the school library were donated by Rtn Charles Lwanga from the Rotary Club in Seattle (USA).
 
  1. Groundnut Sheller/Grinders officially handed over to the farmers in Kayunga District in a village called Nakyesa and they are using them effectively.
 
  1. Water filtration Project was constructed in Wakiso District by Long view Noon Rotary Club in partnership with the Rotary Club of Makindye and on 27th April 2007 was handed over. 
 
  1. Luwafu Parish HIV/AIDS Project was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Karlstad – Tingvall (Sweden) in partnership with the Rotary Club of Makindye. 
 
  1. We contributed;
  1. To several heart patients.
  2. To the Tsunami victims with a handsome contribution.
  3. To the Uganda Rotary Project of Internally Displaced People’s camps in the Northern Uganda.
  4. To the Group Study Exchange.
  5. School fees for 1 Disadvantaged girl (Teddy Kikome) for senior five and senior six in Makindye
